Hands, hands and hands….
Who doesn’t hate this moment when we come to the hands part in a painting?! I think we all do.
Personally I think that I am quite strange in that; I hate it when I come to the hands part in a painting but I like doing sketches of only the hands… It’s like loving single flowers but hating going to the park.
Last week I sent a photo of the painting I am working on now to Timo (Timo Ketola is one of my friends and a talented Finnish artist that I trust in his opinion), he commented that I have to correct the hand’s proportion and suddenly a brilliant idea struck him!
Timo: Why don’t we create “a hands challenge”?! We can draw a quick sketch twice a day.
Me: OK!
Timo: We can do that with a third artist from Brazil (a friend of mine).
Me: OK!
Timo: We can do that on a blog on line…
Me: NIIII (An Italian way to say neither yes nor no; a mix of No and Si)!
I started to see myself dealing with a blog everyday, something closer to a nightmare if you know me…
Finally Timo did it but we kept it as a chat group thing and not a blog to get things easier but it’s a week now and I like the idea so much.
During my academic studies, I used to draw quick sketches everyday for five years of moving models. This hands experience is quite challenging and you can develop the idea into; feet, hair, eyes, lips…and teeth (The teeth are another tricky part to paint).
We all wish to have a model posing for us the whole day but since that it’s quite hard to afford so let’s start with the man in the mirror (I believe that Michael Jackson said this too).
